Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Do. Not. Buy. A. Jeep. - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee after doing A LOT of research, and the in-line 6 was supposed to be darn-near bulletproof. We had such bad luck with my wifes last car, we researched which SUV to get, and this one came up time and time again. We bought it. Long story short, the reviews were so good on Jeep Grand Cherokees because people were writing reviews on the 1st gen. GCs (the 1992-1999 versions). These were awesome! However, somewhere around 1998 or so, Jeep STOPPED building the motors and production was turned over to Chrysler. We spent about $18k on this SUV, and we ended up putting about $4k - $5k worth of motors in this car. This car buried us in debt because as soon as we paid it off, we needed another motor. Wed have to get a lien against the car to buy a motor. Once that motor was paid off, it would blow again. I was religious about oil changes and maintenance, but it didnt matter. I was so happy to get rid of this car last year for $500. I will NEVER buy a Jeep/Chrysler again, and I advice that you do not either.

  • Wasted dough! - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I purchased my 2014 Grand Cherokee AWD with the 3.0 Eco Diesel option. Everything about the car was awesome especially since I also had the trail rated package and air suspension option. The problem with this car was the electronics. Constant issues with the entire control dash lighting up with error messages, poor attention to detail in wiring harness (under fenders exposed wiring for headlights!) just a nightmare with multiple electronic computer flash upgrades. Then, while driving, at 65 mph and up, the steering would vibrate from left to right and the dealer was never able to fix it! The dealer! The engine is fantastic. This diesel is incredible and economy was around 27-28 m.p.g. Not bad at all. Almost to the year, I was so fed up with all issues, I drove it to the Honda dealer and traded for a 2015 Honda CRV, AWD. No issues at all! What kills me most is the drop in value. I lost an easy $25,000 on this vehicle that the manufacturer claim is the most luxurious vehicle and the Jeep name brand which is supposed to represent quality and durability. I should have listened to my friends that owned these cars. I should have used the Lemon Law! Get an Audi, VW, or Porsche Cayman with the same engine.

Plagued with headlights not working, they just shut off while driving.

  • I HAVE BEEN SICK OF THIS THING! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Nothing but TROUBLE since day one! In our 4th set of rotors. Fuel pump replaced a couple of times. New radiator this year. Spent over $3k in repairs in 03 and over $1k so far in 04. At 100k miles, things started falling apart with this piece of junk. Rear end overhauled and left rear bearing replaced 3 times. Constant wind noise on right side from 2nd month-vibrating weather stripping- "Cant replicate" says Mr. Dealer- cant fix what they cant hear!......

  • Very poor quality! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We leased a 2005 Jeep Cherokee Laredo and not only is it a lemon but the dealership will not let us out of the lease. It breaks down all the time. Dealer cannot fix any of the problems we have had with it. Not to mention, recently, while driving down the highway, a small pebble went through the grill and hit the transmission cooler (in front of the radiator - dont be fooled, they look exactly alike), and caused transmission fluid to spray all throughout our engine and vehicle and it almost caught on fire. If a small pebble can cause this it gets you wondering about the build quality of this vehicle. I dont expect too much more from the 2006 or 2006 either.

  • good looks poor performance - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought this suv with 20,000 miles and thats when the problems started the biggest problem is sometimes when the traffic light changes from red to green and I try to accelerate it wont go it needs 3-5 secs to finally go, very poorly designed interior very BASIC (like a car from the 80s) no options, seats also stained very easily. Dont like the gas guzzling all wheel drive all the time I would Rather have the shifting option, sadly based on dealership customer service and Chrysler products this is the last Jeep Ill own.

  • Piece of Garbage from Day. 3 - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 5th, and LAST Jeep brand new Grand Cherokeee. Never can get parts and needs $500. And. $2500 repairs ALL the time. My son still drives my 2000 Grand Cherokee but since 2011 they have been horrible! I am done forever with A JEEP Product!!!

  • Poor Quality throughout the vehicle - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am telling myself NEVER, NEVER again buy a Jeep vehicle. Over $4,000 in repair costs in just over 2 years. Leaks in hoses, blown water pumps, power windows completely failed & had to replace, many electrical & mechanical malfunctions & defects, defective sensors, major transmission & engine problems....etc. Dont forget to consider the extremely poor resale values due to Jeeps reputation for poor quality & reliability. Ive concluded it would have been more inexpensive to have bought a BMW or Mercedes sports car than the Jeep...at least those have high resale values.

  • My Last "premium" Jeep - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel 2014: Ill start with Do Not Buy anything that costs 50k+ from Jeep. I dont think they know anything about supporting this level of cost of automobile. Their service is absolutely horrible. Not at the dealership lever but the corporation itself. I have had numerous problems with my DEF system since purchase. I am at 14900 miles now and still have issues. I have been to the shop 5 times now. It has all so far been related to the emissions system. ] When I call Chrysler I talk to some of the rudest people I know in customer service. They reflect the same level of satisfaction I have come to expect from my Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel 2014. As I type this I am waiting for parts to come in so I can take it in again. Just this morning I got a DEF message pop up. I called my case manager and could not get a hold of her. Every time I call the general team number it goes to voicemail. So I called Chrysler Corp and spoke to a rude person who said she cant help and would put me to my case manager. She did and I got voicemail. Its like they dont really care at all about their product or satisfaction of the customer. I am looking into a legal means to get my problem resolved. I hope there is a class action lawsuit against these guys to teach them better responsibility.

  • Beware! Poor quality + poor customer service! - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I purchased my Grand Cherokee new in September of 2014. As of today, it has spent over 35 days at the dealer for numerous issues - transmission, radiator, gps, bluetooth, brake recall, electrical recall, rusting of tow hooks, water pump, interior door panels broken from the factory. Jeep has refused to negotiate under the New Jersey Lemon Law and has kept me waiting since August. I was also promised that customer care would call this week after my Jeep spent 10 days waiting for a radiator and water pump. Still no answer. Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep have the worst quality as per the latest Consumers Report that came out last week - and the worst customer relations in the business!
